Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture - The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art - Tra Publishing

''Get in the Game offers an expansive view of the ways the intersections of sports and art, design, and social history shape contemporary culture. Sports unite people in shared emotional and physical experiences, like the drama of winning and losing. They also offer a platform for important conversations about gender, race, money, and the limits of the human body. This book's graphic novel visual style brings together an array of voices and perspectives on these topics, featuring a foreword by activist, advocate, and two-time Women's World Cup champion Megan Rapinoe; dialogues between athletes, artists, and cultural figures; a poem by Natalie Diaz; and a series of incisive essays: Frank Andre Guridy on the stadium's role in American cities, Sara Hendren on goalball and the history of adaptive sports, Jay Caspian Kang on youth sports, Seph Rodney on the competitive drive, Theresa Runstedtler on race and mental health in sports, and Bruce Schoenfeld on the data analysis revolution in baseball. These contributions are accompanied by vibrant illustrations of iconic moments in sports history and related activism.''--
